The London Borough of Waltham Forest has signed a deal with a large eprocurement specialist who will purchase and manage its contracted and temporary workforce for the next three years.
Savings associated with the £42 million deal could amount to as much as eight per cent, or £1.1 million each year for the Borough.
Tony Jain, head of corporate procurement at Waltham Forest believes that the move will save administration costs.
In the future, the Borough will place all their procurement orders through one single, secure point, allowing easier monitoring of cumulative spending.
Julian Young, the chief executive at the procurement company Comensura commented: "Sir Peter Gershon himself has referred to better management of labour expenditure as long hanging fruit."
He went on to say that there were large savings to be made in the procurement area if efficiency is targeted by local authorities.
The Office of Government Commerce explains using eprocurement can create efficiency improvements, better commercial relationships with suppliers and greater transparency.
