Retail giant Wal-Mart has taken the lead over other retailers with RFID technology, according to the latest reports.
Despite critics of RFID saying the technology is costly and time consuming to implement Wal-Mart has proceeded to implement the technology that helps monitor supply chain management.
By January next year Wal-Mart will have equipped 600 suppliers and 1,000 stores with RFID technology.
Wal-Mart has also struck up deals with its suppliers so that they tag goods delivered to the company and those goods can be tracked along the supply chain more easily. RFID also makes the procurement of goods more reliable and safe.
However, some retailers are still critical of RFID saying that its negative side is that it still takes two to three years to implement and is still inaccessible to smaller retail companies.
RFID is useful for retailers who can see information about their stock control electronically. This makes procuring the correct amount of goods easier and the supply of them more effective.
