The US state of Virginia has signed up to continue with its current e-procurement plans.
It is reported that the new five-year contract with CGI-AMS Inc will be worth a total of $65 million and will continue the ongoing agreement over the provision of Virginia's portal eVA.
The portal was created in 2001 and has played a key role in improving efficiency levels throughout the state government services. So far, a total of $10 billion worth of goods and services has been processed via the portal.
Virginia adopted for the e-procurement solution in order to resolve problems created in co-ordinating the purchasing processes of 171 different agencies, institutions and public organisations. Adoption of the online system encourages greater sharing as well as joint purchasing to help lower operating costs throughout the state.
Governor Timothy Kaine said: "The success of our eVA procurement system is a direct result of our talented, dedicated team and a strong commitment from our partner CGI-AMS."
He added: "Whether it is a small, disadvantaged business or a multinational corporation, eVA makes doing business with the Commonwealth very efficient and productive."
