Two US colleges have switched to eprocurement systems in order to help simply their on-campus purchasing processes.
Both the University of Michigan and Virginia Tech have signed deals with CDW Government for new online, centralised procurement systems.
Judy Smith, director of procurement services at the University of Michigan, explained that the college had opted for the eprocurement set-up in order to save time and money.
She added that it had so far proved to be flexible and "allows us to experiment with new products and services, particularly between suppliers and our technology departments".
Tom Kaloupek, Ms Smith's counterpart at Virginia Tech, added that no longer having to manually input invoices on to the college's financial management system had proved to be a real benefit.
"The system
reduced the ordering and approval process from days to just a few hours," said Mr Kaloupek.
Epping Forest district council recently switched to an eprocurement and electronic trading environment, a move which it expects to result in cost, efficiency and productivity gains.
