New improvements to the emergency response system in the US include the implementation of a purchasing program, the General Services Administration (GSA) announced this week.
Richard Reed, chief emergency response and recovery officer of the GSA, attended a summit in New Orleans and explained fresh measures put in place to prepare against and respond to future natural disasters.
Included in this strategy is a recovery purchasing program, the GSA announced. Intended for use by state and local governments, it provides these organisations and tribal agencies with access to recovery schedules outlined by the administration.
"Opening GSA's sources of supply and pre-negotiated terms, conditions and pricing to state and local agencies struggling to recover from a crisis is a significant move," Mr Reed added.
The GSA works to support federal agencies by supplying solutions and facilities to help them function effectively.
