An industry expert has claimed that supply chain solutions to the problems of diminishing margins and tight revenues could be found with IT.
Industry expert Steve Bridges claims that customers are ultimately looking for an IT system that provides genuine improvements in reliability, accuracy and efficiency without the necessity of large staff retraining initiatives.
"The obvious place to focus is on internal cost-cutting, but without jeopardising customer service levels," Bridges told Mid-Comp International.
He added that gaining a supplier promising efficiency and reliability is often more important than procuring services for the cheapest price.
Bridges warned that while many managers will request future-proof solutions, they will often not have in-depth ideas of the direction of their business operations for longer than two years.
Earlier this week, the Washington Post reported that 11 multinational firms including PepsiCo and Hewlett-Packard were set to asses their supply chain carbon emissions as part of efforts to reduce greenhouse gases.
