Supply chain software could play a key role in the growing trend towards mobile devices, according to new research.
The poll conducted by Information Week reveals that many companies are already looking at increasing the use of mobile devices via smartphones and PDAs. This trend could have a significant impact on supply chain management solutions and e-procurement software as firms seek out more portable ways of accessing data in order to boost sales and improve overall efficiency.
A total of 85 per cent of firms are set to increase spending on mobile devices in 2007 and it is expected that the number of companies requiring access to supply chain applications, via such hi-tech devices, will more than double over the next 12 months from 19 per cent to 44 per cent.
In many cases, on-the-go supply chain management applications tend to offer less detail than desktop versions and may cause some integration issues.
However, the continuing development of wireless solutions, faster speed capability and increased functionality between applications means that the implementation of portable IT solutions will ensure companies remain competitive in the long-term.
