Leveraging technologies that improve customer relationship management and supply chain collaboration will help keep retailers in South Africa competitive, an expert has said.
Consumer spending is booming in what is one of Africa's fastest growing economies but trading conditions remain tough.
As retailers battle for market share, stream-lining their procurement, payroll and other behind the scenes operations can help improve service and deliver cost savings.
Philip Savides of corporate solutions specialist Business Connexion said the retail sector could benefit from looking at its existing processes.
"By implementing technologies such as customer relationship management, business intelligence and supply chain collaboration, retailers can quickly focus on their core clients, products and suppliers, thereby assuring revenue and profits," Mr Savides told IT Web.
South Africa's central bank is currently considering an increase in interest rates to ward off inflation.
The country's retail sector will be hoping any such move does not slow down demand from consumers.
