More than 50,000 notices to tender have been placed online by the Sri Lankan government in collaboration with Wijeya Newspapers.
Launched by Sri Lankan science and technology minister Professor Tissa Vitharana, the new list is "the most comprehensive catalogue of national tender notices" ever compiled in the country.
The Sri Lankan Daily Mirror reports that Wijeya Newspapers will be posting all tenders featured in its publications on the new website as part of new eprocurement efforts.
More than 50,000 tender notices will be available on the website daily, searchable by category, providing users with an entirely paperless procurement system and the opportunity to create an individual, customisable eprocurement portal.
Professor Vitharana state: "I hope that this is a successful procedure that we can adopt. I think it will improve the quality of governance, the quality of administration in this country."
The Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka is an island nation located off the coast of India in South Asia. Home to around 20 million people, the country is a centre of shipping operations and has a rapidly expanding industrial economy based on sizeable exports of products such as tea, coffee, coconuts and rubber.
