Three of the main areas of improving supply chain management structures have been noted by one software provider, according to Retail Solutions Online (RSO).
According to a spokesman for JDA Software, a number of ecological processes need to be put into place by businesses wishing to compete in an increasingly environment focussed world.
David Johnson, JDA Software's senior vice president of manufacturing and wholesale distribution, said that companies need to consider the benefits of low-impact manufacture, the re-evaluation of global sourcing and streamlined transportation.
Commenting on the advice, RSO states: "Tools that can help lower excess inventory, determine the optimal right-shoring plan and reduce fuel and logistics costs while lowering overall carbon emissions are in high demand."
It goes on to suggest that by creating more eco-friendly operations, businesses can take advantage of the increasing number of "green-conscious consumers".
According to a recent study from Forrester Research, 12 per cent of US citizens said they would be willing to pay more for electronics products if they were more energy-efficient or were derived from a business that is environmentally responsible.
