Retail organisations are missing out on the full potential of information technology because their focus is too much on cost-cutting, concludes a new report. Research conducted by Fujitsu Services found that three quarters of companies are using technology and software in order to reduce outgoings and to streamline business processes rather than to boost profits. Despite this, the report did point out that the implementation of chip and pin services in retail outlets would promote the upgrade of other applications, for example procurement software. One of the major priorities identified in the survey was the integration of software and store systems, industry website Silicon reports. The study indicated that innovation and a willingness to upgrade existing infrastructures would prove important in the retail sector.
