A newly-published report by Accenture has unveiled the best-in-class practices for procurement, it has emerged.
The paper found that those companies using the best-in-class procurement organisations as part of their supply chain are set to save their organisations almost ten times their cost of operation, Purchasing.com reports.
Dubbed "procurement masters", these bodies are said to foster more strategic thinking, with the future years properly considered when purchasing decisions are being made.
Furthermore, companies with procurement masters were found to have higher rates of supplier segmentation and centrally-led procurement management, in addition to being more likely to have a specified sourcing analyst pool for support.
"The Accenture report found that the challenge that saw the biggest gap between masters and low performers was the 'lack of authority to get things done'," reports the procurement and supply chain magazine.
Accenture is a global outsourcing and management consultancy firm which recorded revenues of $19.70 billion (£9.71 billion) for the financial year ended August 2007.
