Finding supply chain management solutions and more effective asset tracking processes are high on the agendas of aerospace and defence companies according to ABI Research's new report.
A popular way for such companies to focus on cost-effective solutions is to implement radio frequency identification (RFID) technology in a bid to enhance their daily operations.
The RFID Aerospace and Defense Market report highlights a growing trend among these industries to use RFID to manage maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) supply chain processes.
ABI Research director Michael Liard remarked: "Integrated MRO strategies based on RFID tagging can deliver marked efficiencies to the processes of locating parts, tools and materials and to producing the significant amounts of documentation required to meet regulations in the aerospace and defence industry."
"RFID is an enabling technology that can facilitate a shift from corrective to predictive maintenance strategies," Mr Laird continued.
RFID can simplify a company's inventories and optimise asset tracking due to stock being accounted for in real-time. The overall market for RFID is predicted to reach a total of more than $2 billion (£1.046 billion) by 2011.
