The shortlist for the UK's Computing Awards for Excellence has been announced and includes an operation whose eprocurement practices have been instrumental in sealing their place.
Organised by Computing, the awards are highly recognised within the industry and this year's award for IT department of the year sees public sector institution RBT (Connect) nominated among eight candidates.
The department will see whether its luck holds when the awards are announced in front of an audience exceeding 1,000 members.
A partnership between communications giant BT and Rotherham metropolitan borough council, RBT (Connect) is being considered following a £3 million saving made over the last two years through one of the most advanced eprocurement systems in the UK, vnunet.com reports.
One of the key projects undertaken by the department is an emergency planning information management system, while its procurement operations have also resulted in an effective learning grid and high speed broadband internet system for the region's schools.
RBT (Connect) was created in 2003 and has been described as a "private sector saviour" by national news publication the Guardian.
