Hiroto Saikawa, Nissan Motor Co. Ltd's executive vice president of purchasing, is to replace CEO Carlos Ghosn as chairman of the company's Americas management committee, it has been announced.
While Mr Ghosn will remain as CEO, Mr Saikawa will be responsible for operations on the continent, with regional purchasing presidents reporting to him.
Known to be close to the CEO on global issues, Mr Saikawa has previously run purchasing operations for both Nissan and Renault - a company Mr Ghosn also heads.
This development comes as Nissan missed its annual profit forecast for the first time in seven years.
"The priority for our new management team is to act decisively on the multiple challenges facing Nissan and to boost our overall performance in 2007," a company statement read.
Nissan has recently unveiled the Titan 4x4 LE - a large four-wheel-drive vehicle with a 5.6-litre Endurance V8 engine.
