More than two-thirds of paper and print procurement departments across the UK intend to increase the amount of recycled paper they use in the next five years, new research has discovered.
A survey by the recycled paper advocacy team at the Waste & Resources Action Programme (Wrap) found that purchasers for major companies are aiming to up the usage of paper products which include recycled material.
Some 51 per cent told Wrap that they want to increase their procurement of recycled paper products by a fifth in the next year, while 25 per cent want their amount to rise by between 20 and 50 per cent, and 24 per cent plan to purchase between 50 and 100 per cent more.
"Today's recycled papers are equal in quality and on-press performance to virgin stocks," said Jonathan Tame, head of Wrap's advocacy team.
"There is no reason not to seriously consider it in the procurement decision-making process."
Last month Wrap reported on a new code of practice which detailed guidance on the requirements and standards recommended for recovered paper intended for recycling.
