Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the east midlands areas of the UK are being encouraged to tender for public sector contracts via a new method.
An online "procurement portal" has been set up by the East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA) and is aimed at securing new business opportunities with firms in the region.
Doing so may also help increase the value of taxpayers' money, EMDA announced.
SMEs can view current contracts on the website, download key documents and be notified of bid outcomes. EMDA also plans for the service to be part of a sustainable procurement and supply chain.
"In the very near future we will be advertising a great deal more of our business opportunities via this new portal," explained Glenn Harris, executive director of corporate services at the agency.
"For small firms in particular, tendering to the public sector can seem very complicated and time-consuming
we want to change that," he added.
This week also saw EMDA launch a new campaign to help SMEs manage their utilities more effectively.
