The Department of Health (DH) has announced that it is to provide procurement assistance to four primary care trusts (PCT), it has been reported.
According to Healthcare & Equipment Supplies, four five-year contracts will be distributed in the first wave of the DH's Fairness in Primary Care Procurement Programme.
County Durham PCT, Great Yarmouth and Waveney PCT, Hartlepool PCT and Nottinghamshire County Teaching PCT will all be assisted with improved medical care services, it added.
The scheme has been created with the intention of giving patients greater access and improved choice when it comes to setting up an appointment with a family doctor.
And it is hoped that the new procurement programme will address regional inequalities that have developed within the industry.
Meanwhile, electronic healthcare records will be provided to The Province in Canada after a deal between the establishment and Sun Microsystems was yesterday announced.
