Procurement systems used within the Royal Mail have been "transformed" since the implementation of a new common sourcing process, it was claimed today.
Discussing the group's three-year period of change for the procurement department, Manufacturing Computer Solutions (MCS) said the organisation was now rolling out its new electronic sourcing system and aiming to realise savings of £300 million by 2009.
Steve North, senior procurement manager at Royal Mail, said the solution with Deloitte had enabled integration and standardisation of a previously "disparate" system.
"Now we have an integrated, standardised methodology, resulting in up-to-date reporting processes and contracts," MCS quotes him as saying.
Mr North added that cost savings can ultimately be gained via the e-sourcing method alongside increased visibility and efficiency.
The Royal Mail Group incorporates brands including Royal Mail, Post Office and Parcelforce Worldwide.
