The procurement process is not just about finding the cheapest goods but also an aid in securing the most suitable services, it was claimed this week.
Speaking to Business Travel News Online, a professional in the industry said many companies simply perceive procurement as nothing more than a "cost-cutting endeavour".
George Odom, senior director of business development at Advito, the consulting arm of BCD Travel, said the focus should instead be on the most appropriate product for a firm's needs, not just the least expensive.
"There's got to be a balance and I think the industry has become good at weighing those balances because they know what the cost is for the service," Mr Odom added.
He explained that all procurement strategies are valid, but they must be adjusted to the market and the goal that a company wants to achieve.
BCD Travel focuses on services such as data analysis and travel management solutions for a range of customers.
