Panasonic has announced that it will budget around $62.2 million (£31.4 million) for the procurement of LCD and plasma panels during 2008.
Digitimes.com reports that the Japanese consumer electronics manufacturer has allocated the figure for procurement of the products from Taiwanese companies - although some industry experts have indicated that subsequent contracts may have been agreed.
The website reports that it has been indicated that that AU Optronics and Chi Mei Optoelectronics could be the companies that benefit from the funds as Panasonic aims to fill increasing demand for high definition flat screen televisions.
It is noted that Panasonic Taiwan's general manager, Shimizu Toshiki, said that the procurement budget will fund projected growth of 50 per cent in the plasma panel market, while the companies predicted 30 per cent growth in LCD TV sales will also be affected.
Panasonic recently revealed what it believes to be the world's largest plasma TV, which measures 150 inches and was unveiled to audiences at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
