The company that delivers the Zanzibar Managed Service, PA Consulting Group, is to launch a so-called Marketplace for Schools, whereby e-procurement and e-marketplace platforms will benefit UK schools.
In order to comply with the Gershon review of public spending, £1.4 billion worth of savings are expected from the education system by March 2008 and the Marketplace for Schools is aimed at making large in-roads into this figure.
A pilot scheme involving schools across England starting in 2007 will test the new system, using it as their everyday procurement platform. The government wishes to manage an efficient level of spending in schools so 'significant' savings can take place.
The Centre for Procurement Performance has been working alongside PA Consulting Group in order to analyse the current e-procurement situation in relation to schools and decipher the best options for schools as a result.
PA Consulting Group's Zanzibar managed service has been running since February this year and is available to the public sector as a solution to their e-procurement requirements.
The company draws on its knowledge of e-procurement to offer the Marketplace for Schools platform that will potentially offer more value for money for schools as local and national contracts are easily and securely accessible as are e-catalogues.
