An online auction held by the UK government's e-procurement arm OGCbuying.solutions has allowed for public sector savings of up to 45 per cent on IT hardware products.
The auction was held by OGCbuying.solutions in conjunction with the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) as part of their 'Great Deals' initiative. These impressive discounts were offered after pre-qualified bidders were asked to name supply prices against a set of specifications.
The director of OGC's procurement workstream, Richard Abbot, said that the deal was indicative of the OGC's efforts to help public sector departments release extra funds for front-line services by meeting budgetary targets.
Chief executive of OGCbuying.solutions Hugh Barret said: "This is a fantastic deal for the public sector. The specifications are designed to handle current propriety software packages and subsequent releases. With high specification, quality laptops available at around £430 and desktops at around £280, this is a significant breakthrough for public sector customers and will save them time and money in the purchasing process."
