The managing director of a construction company has praised the new tendering process launched for the 2012 Olympic Games.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Peter Emerson of Watson Steel Structures said the web-based process would help to ensure that opportunities are "spread far and wide".
"We've got our own supply chain in place for some of the key elements, but we're quite satisfied that the efficiency of the system is there to be used," he commented.
Watson Steel Structures, which is based in Bolton, is to create the steel structure for the 80,000-seat Olympic stadium, the Bolton News reports.
According to the newspaper, Mr Emerson said the company was "delighted" to have been given the contract.
The Olympic Delivery Authority claimed that the online system will help to share the benefits of contracts estimated to be worth £6 billion to companies throughout the UK.
