A new initiative aimed at improving procurement processes for contracts relating to the London 2012 Olympics has been welcomed by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).
It is reported that the launch of the Olympic Delivery Authority's (ODA) London 2012 Business Network website has been highlighted as a positive step in ensuring that smaller companies are able to take advantage of the many opportunities the games provide.
The website aims to allow small businesses to compete for sub-contracts from larger companies already involved in Olympic contracts and offers advice and support on attaining best practice in areas of corporate social responsibility.
John Wright, national chairman of the FSB, said that the launch of the site would improve the fairness of the procurement process but added that it will be under close scrutiny.
"The ODA has made a good start with the London 2012 Business Network, but we will be keeping a beady eye on the process in the coming months and years to make sure it delivers genuine opportunities for small businesses," he said.
Earlier this week MP for north Swindon, Michael Wills, urged local businesses to bid for contracts for the Olympics, the Gazette and Herald reports.
