Calls are being made for the implementation of eprocurement in the Filipino government to be sped up, in order to effect positive change and establish a programme of modernisation in the armed forces.
It has been proposed that eprocurement be focused upon in the modernisation of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), alongside the wider modernisation of government processes under the Government Electronic Procurement System .
These calls have been made by Senate president Manny Villar, warning that failure to speed up modernisation could leave the AFP in a state of vulnerability.
"The modernisation of the procurement process under the Government Electronic Procurement System will ensure acquisition of quality and updated weaponry and artillery," he said according to Tempo.
A law pertaining to eprocurement in the Philippines is due for review as the government considers benefits offered by purchasing software.
