The mayor of London has announced a new scheme that could see a number of procurement opportunities in the capital.
It has emerged that Ken Livingstone has backed a new scheme that will not only aim to improve the carbon efficiency of public buildings in London, but will see the launch of a new procurement initiative.
It is thought that this will lead to a number of beneficiaries in the public sector with Dalkia and Honeywell securing the first contract to help reduce energy use in the capital by 25 per cent.
The scheme, which is the first of its kind in the world and will involve a municipal tender process, will have the involvement of Clinton Climate Initiative - who the mayor will work alongside to sign up private sector businesses to take part.
"I will now ask my officers to plan the creation of a Low Carbon Building Unit, to provided on-going support to other public authorities," Mr Livingstone commented.
Earlier this week, the London mayor also gave his backing to the building of a tram system that will run along Oxford Street serving the West End of the capital.
