The ability to effectively manage outside influence such as service and product providers can be vital in establishing and maintaining a strong operation, it has been claimed.
A new report from the UK's Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) stresses that the management of people external to a business but instrumental in the procurement process can be beneficial in promoting strong performance.
Angela Baron, organisational and resource adviser at the institute, remarks: "Organisational development depends on the ability of organisations to build and maintain relationships so that the necessary knowledge is shared with those working for the organisation and that the organisations values and purpose is not diluted."
However, procurement processes must also be managed to ensure the protection of critical knowledge - something which an efficient eprocurement system can help to achieve.
But it is equally important that these relationships are managed to ensure that critical knowledge which is key to the organisation's product is protected.
The new report from the CIPD draws on a wide number of case studies to show how to undertake strong procurement practices can help.
Recently, the CIPD announced that it had formulated separate guidance on effective procurement and staff retention within the NHS, focussing on the importance of meeting employee expectations.
