A new review of progress for responsible procurement within the London district has been unveiled today by London mayor Ken Livingstone.
The Greater London Authority Group's responsible procurement policy, which seeks to ensure both environmental and social responsibilities are considered when procuring products and services, looked at what had been achieved in the last year in line with targets set previously.
Commenting on the details of the review, Mr Livingstone said that there had been significant progress that had been made within the last year including ecological initiatives and the implementation of a Green Procurement Code.
"All these achievements demonstrate how seriously we take responsible procurement. As a world-class city, it is only right that we lead the way on making sure London buys its goods and services responsibly," he said.
He added that it was hoped that the various schemes that form the policy would encourage buyers and suppliers to follow suit and that this would go some way towards creating a prosperous and responsible city.
The London mayor is currently facing challenges for his position by Conservative MP Boris Johnson and Liberal Democrat member Brian Paddick.
