Kenya's supply chain has been named as one of the best connected and most accessible in Africa, according to a new report on trade logistics.
The World Bank survey reveals that the top five countries in Africa in terms of efficiency to key supply chain areas are South Africa, Tunisia, Guinea, Sudan and Mauritania and Kenya, Business Daily Africa reports.
A total of 150 countries were tested for efficiency in a range of areas, including customs procedures, infrastructure quality and the cost of logistics services and Kenya ranked 76th in the world.
Danny Leipziger, World Bank vice president for poverty reduction and economic management, said: "Connecting to global markets is fast becoming a key aspect of any economy's capacity to compete, grow, attract investment, create jobs and reduce poverty."
Located in eastern Africa, the Republic of Kenya is bordered by Ethiopia, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda and Sudan, with a coastline on the Indian Ocean to the south east. Major exports from the country include tea, coffee, horticultural products, petroleum products, cement, soda ash, hides and skins and fluorspar.
