The Indian state of Karnataka has announced that it has entered into an agreement with Hewlett-Packard India to develop a unified e-procurement strategy for the region.
The public-private partnership would improve the regional government's tendering, bidding and empanelment processes as well contract management, said officials.
"The system shall enable government to maintain a clear picture of its procurement activities on a real-time basis," Karnataka chief secretary Malati Das told Konkani.
He added that the strategy would improve efficiency and transparency in public spending by automating processes and allow for demand aggregation.
The project will be applied to selected government departments during an initial trial period, before being adopted across all other regional government departments.
The state's own centre for e-governance would be responsible for applying policy, which has now established a dedicated agency to ensure that the strategy was coordinated across departments.
