Many IT managers are finding that the weight of procurement and administrative tasks is marginalising them, according to new research.
A survey from theitindex.co.uk found that nearly 20 per cent of an IT managers time was spent on procurement processes.
It added that some 50 per cent of the officials' time is taken up by pricing issues, while 79 per cent bemoaned procurement availability issues.
And Peter Robbins, managing director of Proband, the company behind theitindex.co.uk/gov, outlined the findings.
"A best practice approach to procurement would undoubtedly unlock the true potential of an IT manager's role and deliver best value IT at the same time," he said.
Meanwhile, research from the Department of Trade & Industry has found that IT professionals are mostly unhappy with their job.
Their survey found that those in the industry ranked 66th most satisfied, while six out of the top ten were management positions.
