Hansen appoints new procurement head

An international company specialising in the design and manufacture of gearboxes has appointed a new corporate director of strategic procurement, it has emerged.

According to the North American Wind Power website, Hansen Transmissions International has selected Gerd Bersch to take over the role having established a name for himself in the procurement and supply chain industry.

Mr Bersch will now be appointed the task of improving efficiency in the procurement of gearbox parts and related services including in the company's efforts to expand its wind energy business.

Commenting on the appointment, Hansen chief executive officer Ivan Brems said that he expected Mr Gerd Bersch to become a "valuable" addition to the company and would aid the company in its plans to grow as well as streamline their processes.

"Establishing efficient supply networks in the shortest possible time frame will enable us to continue to grow our output quickly and seize the exciting opportunities we are presented with," he said.

Hansen Transmissions was acquired in 2006 by Suzlon Energy, an Indian company which claims to be the sixth-largest wind power company in the world.
