A contract put to tender this week will see local fruit and vegetable growers supply schools and care homes in Shropshire for the next four years, it has been reported.
The deal has been constructed by the local county council to benefit small businesses and allow them to submit bids.
Under the terms of the contract, Shropshire has been broken down into five areas in order to encourage activity but suppliers can look to pick up deals for more than one region.
And John Everall, Shropshire county council's cabinet member for the environment and sustainability, commented that this is the latest step in a healthy eating drive across local schools.
"Shropshire County Council has made great improvements to the quality, variety and nutritional value of meals served in the countys schools," he said.
Meanwhile, the RADwaste Project has been set up by the National Education Network in order to provide children the opportunity to understand how waste management procurement works, according to PublicTechnology.net.
