Councillors in Gloucestershire are set to approve a new procurement plan for the county's waste management needs, it emerged this week.
According to letsrecycle.com, the requirements will guide potential bidders so they are aware of what targets they have to meet.
Stan Waddington, Gloucestershire's cabinet minister for the environment, said the procurement plan was constructed following a "careful analysis" of waste systems on the current market.
"We believed the most sensible approach was to put together a list of requirements that we need the technologies to meet and ask the bidders to submit a proposal to meet these," he explained.
According to the minister, industry experts believe this approach is one of the most sensible ways to ensure the council gets exactly what it needs with minimal delays.
Gloucestershire council states on its website that some £325 million is spent annually on the purchase of goods and services for the county.
