A new eprocurement system aimed at cutting costs and processes for Essex County Council has been put in place, it has emerged.
It is reported that EGS Ltd, an e-commerce and e-invoicing solutions provider, has put in place its latest procurement products across the council's systems which it hopes will save them around £500,000. The company has also stated that the council can expect a return on investment within the next six to twelve months and that the new process could handle as many as 65,000 invoices over the coming year.
Commenting on the news, purchase to pay manager for the council Nicole Edbrooke said that the move would ease budget pressures and improve efficiency.
"The council was looking to make big efficiency savings, and electronic invoicing had huge potential for streamlining efficiencies. We looked at various options in the market, including technology from a finance vendor, but it wasnt a mature solution," she said.
Essex County Council adopted EGS' IDeA:marketplace solution for electronic procurement in 2003 - this deal builds on that previous relationship.
