An online procurement platform has assisted a Texan city to secure energy services at a reduced price.
Expected savings of $200,000 (£96,653) were announced as a result of the transparent electronic auction, which was operated by World Energy Solutions.
The City of Temple in Texas secured a rate below its budgeted cost after six different suppliers made a total of 50 bids.
In addition to the projected cost savings, it is thought this will translate into an extra 27 million kilowatt hours each year.
City of Temple director of finance Traci Barnard explained how the eprocurement system provided benefits not previously realised with traditional purchasing methods.
"We were able to efficiently entertain offers from multiple bidders, ultimately securing a more aggressive price through the reverse auction," she said.
"Our previous energy procurement process was typical of most state and local government agencies."
World Energy Solutions recently assisted the state of Connecticut to procure renewable resources.
