Another council in the UK has turned to an eprocurement system to improve and develop its purchasing processes, it emerged today.
A total of 200 staff and 20 internal buying organisations within Chichester district council are to now use an electronic trading exchange from EGS, with the local government body expecting some 10,000 purchase orders to be placed annually.
The development follows the council's notification in October 2005 that it was to investigate various eprocurement solutions as part of the governments IG4 targets.
These explain the need for a fully electronic system and its use in improving efficiency throughout the end-to-end procure-to-pay process.
"Due to the fact that we maintain a decentralised buying policy, the new system makes processes simpler," said Mark Dolan, Chichester council's systems and technical accountant. "The system is now 98 per cent electronic."
Last week saw Colchester borough council adopt an eprocurement system to manage its purchasing requirements.
