An eprocurement system is one of the most important parts of an electronic government structure, an expert in the sector said yesterday.
Daniel Ayers of the Vietnam Centre for Sustainable Development told a procurement seminar that it has a "great impact" on a country's economy, reports Vietnam News.
A nation may usually spend about ten or 15 per cent of its gross domestic product on public procurement - "not a small amount", he added.
But this means that when small improvements to transparency and efficiency are made, the economy can see big benefits.
"This is what makes eprocurement one of the most important factors of an e-government," Mr Ayers concluded.
Eprocurement would involve all transactions and acquisitions being published online and made available to view by all parties.
A number of local government departments in the UK have recently implemented this type of purchasing model.
