Eprocurement solutions designed to increase efficiency and reduce maverick spending have delivered on their original promises, the author of a recent article has claimed.
Writing on purchasing.com, Ray Mazzoleni said that although it has not been the ultimate and only system required to ease processing needs, it has facilitated ordering time and helped designers to recognise the difference between procuring services and goods.
"There are differences between buying a widget and buying a service," he explained. "It's a little different then when I began working in purchasing, where the materials and indirect purchasing groups both used the same purchasing system."
Recent months have seen a number of local government departments throughout the UK implement an eprocurement system aimed at reducing operating costs and increasing efficiency.
Colchester borough council announced this month that it had deployed an eprocurement solution expected to make savings of up to £200,000.
