Procurement needs to be coordinated across the UK's police forces if the introduction of mobile devices in the police service is to prove affordable, it has been suggested. According to the Sir Ronnie Flanagan's Review, efficiency in the nation's forces will only be achieved if a business-like strategy is followed, reports Computing magazine. The necessity for the 43 police forces to work together in improving the current situation is emphasised in the report on a number of occasions. "The service must act corporately in the implementation of mobile information solutions or we will waste millions of pounds on 43 different but similar IT solutions for operational processes which are all based on the same criminal law," the publication states. It also calls for the National Police Improvement Agency (NPIA) to standardise technology guidelines to help with the matter. The NPIA's website indicates that the organisation aims to support the police service by offering its expertise in a number of areas, including information and communications technology, and managing change.
