Spend Control company Proactis has been selected by Denbighshire County Council to provide its e-procurement management suite.
The Welsh authority has announced that it will be using an integrated solution comprising Spend Control, eSourcing, eCommerce and Supplier Relationship Management in order to automate procurement and improve efficiency.
It is hoped that the organisation will now be able to purchase goods through a hosted, online portal, collaborate with suppliers and enable small local business to trade and compete with larger companies online, it added.
And Arwel Staples, strategic procurement manager for the local body, hailed the move.
"This is not just a software implementation but a completely new approach to procurement for the council," the representative said.
"We hope that other councils in Wales and the UK… follow our example."
Startup Coupa recently announced that it would be incorporating an online-based front-end, similar to that used by Amazon.com, to its software.
