A top defence procurement official in the US has claimed that a company-wide purchasing strategy is "the way to go", it has been reported.
Shay Assad, director of defence procurement and acquisition policy, has claimed that an intragency system like that employed by Nasa may see the department save more on purchases, Government Executive has stated.
While the authority has claimed that relations in-house are healthy, Mr Assad added that the organisation is looking for competition between contractors within and outside the organisation, according to GovExec.com.
"If an interagency provider such as Nasa's, or the Interior Department's, or whatever is the most effective way to buy the goods and services [then] that's the way to go," Mr Assad said.
This follows news in the UK over the past month that Lord Drayson is looking to enhance military procurement.
The official would like to see a one-stop shop established for the buying and selling of army equipment.
