Council taxpayers in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead are benefiting from the council's successful procurement policy, which has been central to its drive for efficiency and value for money.
With the council having announced savings of £6 million as a result of its three year initiative, council tax in the borough is set to be kept as low as 3.8 per cent, £69 a year lower than the average rates for properties within band D.
The council revealed it saved £700,000 a year as a result of procuring new contracts for home care, with partnerships with outside organisations allowing new facilities to be built at no cost to the taxpayer.
A further £40,000 a year was saved through reducing stationary bills.
Councillor David Eglise said: We owe it to hard-pressed council taxpayers to make their money work to the limit and three years ago we started our concerted efficiency and improvement programme to make every penny count."
"This business-like approach has been endorsed by the council's auditors who have particularly commended us for our financial management and value for money," he added.
