Merton council has been named as a finalist at the Society of Procurement Officers National Awards ceremony and praised for its efforts in good value purchasing.
Entrants to the award were assessed on cost savings made, approaches that increased awareness of procurement and the success of their procurement teams.
Councillor David Williams, leader of Merton council, stated: "Offering good value for money to residents is a fundamental element of being a successful council. To guarantee efficient, cost effective and high quality services for our residents, we have a duty to ensure that we get a good deal in our purchasing."
Merton council was also named recently as a finalist at the mayor of London's Green Procurement Code Awards for reducing its environmental impact via responsible purchasing methods alongside seven other organisations.
The council has boosted its spending on recycled goods over the past year by around 40 per cent, reducing waste and carbon emissions.
First introduced in 2002, the Society of Procurement Officers National Awards celebrate outstanding achievement in procurement, recognising good practice in a variety of approaches to procurement made by local authorities.
