The Canadian Aboriginal and Minority Supplier Council (CAMSC) has announced the amount its corporate members spent on procurement with aboriginal and minority companies during 2006.
According to the body, the figures totalled more than $27 million (£13.6 million) for the year, compared to $16 million in 2005.
The company added that the amount indicates the growing relationship between corporate Canada and aboriginal and minority-owned suppliers.
And the news comes as the industry welcomes the Canadian Aboriginal and Minority Supplier Procurement Fair at the Fairmount Royal York Hotel in Toronto on April 10th and 11th 2007.
"Our goal is to link corporate Canada with Aboriginal and minority businesses, which are becoming increasingly crucial to Canada's economic future," said Orrin Benn, president of the CAMSC.
Jacobs Engineering this week announced that it had acquired two major engineering, procurement and fabrication packages in order to assist BP Products North American.
