Colchester borough council has adopted an eprocurement strategy, it has emerged.
The move has seen the local authority deploy EGS' eprocurement and electronic trading environment, also known as the IDeA:marketplace, which is expected to deliver annual savings of £200,000.
Jackie Martin, procurement control manager for Colchester, said: "We wanted to streamline the process of procurement, as well as consolidate the number of different suppliers."
She added that the move has allowed the authority to make use of aggregated purchasing when working together Essex county council on county-wide contracts.
An estimated 2,000 suppliers have already signed up to the system, as the local authority expects to process some 12,000 purchases every year.
The council has previously been using paper-based order pads for its procurement.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Stoke-on-Trent city council signed a deal with Civica to rollout a new eprocurement and financial management system.
