NSF International's chief technical officer Lori Bestervelt has offered businesses a range of tips aimed at aiding them in their efforts to establish a more effective supply chain management system.
Dr Bestervelt is convinced that when it comes to supply chain management, five areas ought to be of particular concern, namely efficiency, traceability, certification, organisational buy-in and measurement.
Inadequate supply chain management can often lead to poor results for businesses, regardless of where they operate and ensuring that products are safe to use and of a high quality is important to companies around the world, Dr Bestervelt insists.
She writes that businesses should understand that the "end user is the main driver for any management program".
"Consider who uses your products, as well as how and where they are used in order to assess all risks," she advises.
NSF International operates on a not-for-profit basis and describes itself as a public health and safety company.
