Inefficient procurement processes are costing IT officials valuable time, according to new research from the IT procurement portal theitindex.co.uk.
A survey by the company found that IT managers spend around 20 per cent of their time negotiating procurement deals with suppliers and a further 20 per cent on administration.
As a result many feel they are unable to do their jobs properly as they do not have enough time left to complete necessary day to day tasks. Peter Robbins, managing director of Probrand, which owns theitindex.co.uk, said: "We have found that the majority of IT managers spend an average of one day a week ringing round and conducting manual comparisons.
"This is both inefficient and costly and often does not secure the best-priced product within the fastest time," he stressed.
The research shows that price and availability on product are two of the most important things IT managers look for when buying new IT solutions.
However it seems environmental issues are not as separate research from Forrester shows that green factors feature in just 25 per cent of IT managers' purchasing decisions.
