Research firm Aberdeen Group has announced landmark plans to host a global summit on supply chain management.

The event will offer advice on the best supply chain management solutions, systems and strategies, based on a series of surveys suggesting that there is a pressing need for such an executive summit.

One recent study reveals that a typical $1 billion enterprise can relinquish up to $40 million in liquid assets with effective supply chain management solutions, while only one in ten employs adequate procurement software.

Further research suggests that more than four in five companies are wary of supply chain disruptions, yet only one in ten has made strides to manage the risk. In addition, three-quarters admit to inadequate staffing resources for their supply chain management plans.

"There is a tremendous opportunity to improve supply chains," explained Beth Enslow, Aberdeen Group's vice president of enterprise research.

"We are looking forward to bringing together the leading supply chain, financial and other key executives to share experiences of successful global supply chain transformation," she added, stressing the unique networking opportunities.

Attendants will have the chance to meet purchasing, manufacturing and logistics directors, chief operating and financial officers, CIOs and supply chain vice presidents representing industries including aerospace and defence, through high-tech, automotive and retail to chemicals, industrial and life science.

The summit will take place on March 6th and 7th 2007 at the Seaport Hotel and World Trade Centre in Boston, Massachusetts.
